Pope Benedict XVI on Jubilee Year of
Saint Paul
“Dear brothers
and sisters, as in early times, today
too Christ needs apostles ready to
sacrifice themselves. He needs witnesses
and martyrs like St Paul. Paul, a former
violent persecutor of Christians, when
he fell to the ground dazzled by the
divine light on the road to Damascus,
did not hesitate to change sides to the
Crucified One and followed him without
second thoughts. He lived and worked for
Christ, for him he suffered and died.
How timely his example is today!"
“And for this
very reason I am pleased to announce
officially that we shall be dedicating a
special Jubilee Year to the Apostle Paul
from 28 June 2008 to 29 June 2009, on
the occasion of the bi-millennium of his
birth, which historians have placed
between the years 7 and 10 A.D.”

Murphy-O'Connor, O.P, Liturgical Press,

family, education, refugee status,

Paul, Least of
the Apostles - The Story of the Most
Unlikely Witness to Christ, Alain
Decaux Pauline Books and Media, 2003 (
www.pauline.org ) The author

passion and conviction, courage and
faith, yet one branded by human
contradictions, self-doubt, and personal
weakness.
Paul’s Social
Network: Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
edited by Bruce Malina, STD, Liturgical
Press 2007
( www.litpress.org ) Human beings are
embedded in a set of social relations. A
social network is one way of conceiving
that set of relations in terms of a
number of persons connected to one
another by varying degrees of
relatedness. In the early Jesus-group
documents featuring Paul and coworkers,
it takes little effort to envision the
apostle’s collection of friends and
friends of friends that is the Pauline
network. The persons who constituted
that network are the focus of this set
of brief books.
