 Main Entrance

The main entrance to the Church announces that one is about to enter a revered space.  Not one recently conceived but one that has survived and thrived throughout the ages.  Above the Cathedral's great mahogany entry doors is a three-paneled tympanum, made of white Italian Carrara marble.
The center panel depicts Christ the King, the Alpha and the Omega, seated on his throne.
The right panel shows Saints Peter and Paul, apostles of Jesus and Missionaries to Jews and Gentiles who sought to bring the Good News to all people.  The papal tiara and keys symbolize the communion of our local Church to the universal Church.
The left panel shows the image of Bishop Jean Marie Odin, first bishop of the Diocese of Galveston, and Fray Antonio Margil, an early 18th century Spanish Franciscan missionary, who brought Christianity to the territory that would eventually become Texas.  The diocesan seal is included in this panel.
