The Resurrection Window
The great window of the
Co-Cathedral is the Resurrection Window, one of
epic proportions that adorns the front wall
depicting Christ rising over the city of
Houston. The heart of Christ reaches out
in love and protection to the city inviting all
to come to him. This window fashioned of
opalescent and hand-blown glass reinforces the
mystery of the Resurrection which transforms all
human history. At the feet of Jesus is an
abstract skyline of downtown Houston. The
Christ figure holds a white banner with a red
cross. These traditional colors signify
the dual nature of Jesus (white/divine;
red/human). The banner declares Christ's
victory over sin and death. The vibrant
colors of the glass express the power and
passion of our risen Lord. The window
stands 40 feet in height and 20 feet wide.
Original drawings for the window were made by
Romano Cosci, the only living artist whose work
is displayed in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
The window was executed by Mellini Art Glass of
Florence, Italy.
