"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses."

Acts 1:8

What Now?

World Youth Day is supposed to help bring about changes in the lives of those who are associated with it.  As the theme of this year reinforces, we are called to be witnesses of the Good News.

A quote often attributed to St. Francis of Assisi is the suggestion, “Preach the gospel always and everywhere.  When necessary, use words.”

This idea that our actions are a part of the proclamation is also found in our Sacred Scriptures.  “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,’ but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.  Indeed someone might say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.” James 2:14-18

How do we bear witness through what we do?  How do we put our faith into action? One great way is through volunteering our time and talents to those who need them. How can we find ways to volunteer?  One way is through our local parishes. They are involved in all sorts of outreach ministries.  If you don’t know how to get a hold of someone at your local parish, find your parish contact information here.

There are many other worthy service opportunities in our local area.  Information on how to volunteer for some of them is below:
