The greatest asset the Office of Correctional Ministries has is its volunteers. While we are fortunate to have three staff members, we could not begin to accomplish the mission without truly dedicated men and women who volunteer their time and talent. There are 26 state prison units, 10 county jails, one federal institution and countless city jails within the boundaries of the Archdiocese of Galveston / Houston. At any given time, there are sixty (60) to seventy (70) thousand people locked up in these facilities. The reality is that 28% of these incarcerated men and women are Roman Catholic! How can we meet the great demand for pastoral services for 17,000 Catholics?
